On Wednesday December 11th at 12:45 pm the Ronkonkoma Fire Department was toned out for a residential structure fire. First arriving Chief on Scene, Assistant Chief Diaz transmitted a working fire, for a basement fire in a two story private dwelling. Chief of the department Kevin Murray took control of the scene when he arrived shortly there after. First due engine crews were told of the location of the fire to be in the basement on the 1/2 corner as per 32's size-up. First due crews quickly made entry and were faced with hoarder like conditions. They were able to make an aggressive interior attack and knock down the main fire before it could spread up to the first or second story. Mutual aid companies assisted with additional lines for hot spots and to open up and check for extension. The cause of the fire is believed to be a space heater. There were no injuries reported and the scene was turned over to the fire marshalls office for further investigation.
