The Ronkonkoma Fire Department was activated for a motor vehicle accident on the LIE eastbound by exit 60 at 0615 Hrs. The first arriving unit notified dispatch of a single vehicle crash involving a two axel truck over the guardrail with a ruptured diesel fuel tank. It was determined that the 55 gallon fuel tank was full prior to the accident, at which point the DEC and Brookhaven Town HazMat Team was notified. A safety hose line was placed and the expressway was partially shut down while crews operated on scene. The driver of the truck was evaluated by EMS and was uninjured. The incident was under the direction of Third Assistant Chief Vincent T. Diaz, who called the scene under control and released all fire and EMS personnel at 0810 Hrs.
